About Falling Walls

Falling Walls Lab (FWL) is a world-class pitch competition & networking forum in over 60 countries that brings together a diverse and interdisciplinary pool of students and early-career professionals by providing a stage for breakthrough ideas both locally and globally.

Each year, institutions around the world organise their own Falling Walls Labs to showcase the quality, diversity, and passion of their region’s most innovative minds. In three minutes each, participants pitch their solutions to some of the most pressing challenges of our time to a high-calibre jury of experts. The breakthrough factor and potential impact of the presented work helps determine the eventual winner, who qualifies for the global Finale in Berlin on 7 November and wins a ticket to attend the Falling Walls Science Summit, where they get to interact with the world’s movers and shakers of science, business, and policymaking.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I find out if I qualify to apply for Falling Walls?

All information with regards to qualification criteria and application process can be found on the Zimbabwe Open Call page on the International Falling Walls website. Please click on the “Apply Now” button in the “How to Enter” section to be redirected to that page.

When can I expect to receive news on if I have qualified to pitch?

Feedback to successful applicants will most likely be provided on or before 24th July 2024 via email.

Where is FWL Zimbabwe going to be held this year?

FWL Zimbabwe 2024 will be hosted at ZB Innovation Hub, located at First Street and Kwame Nkrumah Avenue in Harare, Zimbabwe.

Can I apply even if I live outside the country?

The event is an in-person pitch competition that requires participants to appear in Harare in person to pitch. It is therefore advised that you refrain from applying if you will not be in the country for the duration of the event.

Dr. Emmie Chiyindiko

After participating in South Africa and winning at the global finale, PhD candidate & multi-award-winning science engager, Dr. Emmie Chiyindiko was compelled to launch the first annual FWL in Zimbabwe. She knew of the immense talent residing in the country, and the potential benefits of having a platform of this nature locally. Through mutually beneficial high-value partnerships with key organisations, Falling Walls Lab Zimbabwe was born in 2022.
